My super sustain mod is a recipe of components and modifications developed over 12 years of repairing, restoring and modding vintage Fender amps. I have seen the best of the best come through my shop over the last 12 years and I have documented why certain amps were much better sounding than others…it all comes down to parts drift and some dumb luck. Certain components drift in a way that the designer could never have predicted… thus creating a unique and rare tonal opportunity. The Fargen Super Sustain mod also replaces all the inferior caps and resistors used by most companies with world class components that I have made for the Fargen custom shop. The combination of new custom components, new grounding scheme and new Custom Mercury Magnetics output transformer and choke enhances what the amp has to offer in tone and sustain by double.

Fargen Hot Mods DIY KIT for Fender Champion 600 tube amp

First the negatives so far, I have spent only about an hour with it and have already decided the power scaling is something I am not even going to use, it does work good but since I am used to cranking on 100 watt heads I have not need for it. I will also say the gain remains there but of course there is some tone suckage for sure, I could live with it for practicing for sure but not recording. One of the things they told me about that London power scaling is while it will work on any amp it works best on lower watt amps, I could see it being great for guys in apartments. I have been playing the thing dimed already through a 4×12 of G12H-30s (75hz) and it has plenty of bite for any small club, I would not gig this in a larger place without a mic or a JDX box.

I also do not like (or not used to) the power and standby switch located on the back of the amp.

Now the good stuff. All I can say is the plexi tones are completely there and while there are noticeable gain changes between the three decades on this amp all three have more then enough gain and clean real well with rolling back the guitar. The eq is very responsive and has a pretty dramatic effect with small changes, this is good. No shortage of gain in any of the decade positions, more then enough. The way I think I will be using this is as follows;

60s Mode – I like the voice of 2466 better in LDR boosted, the Fargen is brighter here but very sweet
70s Mode – high gain Plexi Tones with that signature articulate voice, awesome cranked up the full 12 watts
80s Mode – Worth the price by itself, hot rodded JCM800 if I ever heard it, will spend most of my time here

I am very happy with this amp and after only and hour of playing the amp proved to me it could get the plexi tones I lack when I lost my Metro amp. Probably not as cool as the YJM for sure but the 12 watts and tone of this thing makes it more practical for me. I am very happy I bought this. Will get some clips posted later this weekend. I am going to pull one of the 6L6 tubes and throw a KT66 in it tonight.
